The ban on publishing reviews of the GeForce RTX 3090 video card was lifted today, and we can finally understand why this model is needed. Recall that the RTX 3090 has 20% more CUDA cores than the RTX 3080, offers more than double the memory, but also costs more than double.



Already from these data, one could safely assume that the RTX 3080 is much more profitable for games, but now we can be convinced of this.

As you can see, the increase is small. If we take Founders Edition cards or models operating at the same frequencies, then the increase will be about 10%. At the same time, there are already well-overclocked video cards, for example, the Asus GeForce RTX 3090 Strix OC. And this particular adapter is faster than the reference RTX 3080 by 18%, that is, quite decently.


However, firstly, this does not justify more than a twofold difference in cost, and secondly, even the RTX 3080 is enough for most gamers. Of course, the RTX 3090 will find its buyers, but it's not for nothing that Nvidia itself is positioning the RTX 3080 as the flagship of the new generation gaming line.
